Date of writing of the Book of Proverbs
The Book of Proverbs i tend to refer to as a hands on book, a book that can be applied almost immediately to life. There are tid - bites of information throughout the text that i tend to regard as GO To READS of Scripture. The book is part of the poetical writing in Scripture along with Job, Ecclesiastes, and Song of Solomon.
In II Timothy, Paul talks about encouragement, the encouragement of young Timothy, however it can be applied to all who are young in Christ needing encouragement. In verse 2 of chapter 2 in the second letter of Paul to Timothy the words seem to resonate with understanding Scripture in general, as well as proverbial wisdom. Let me elaborate by allowing scripture to explain itself in regards to how proverbs can be associated with a hands on understanding of life experiences.
II Timothy 2:2, "And the things that thou has heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also."
II Timothy 3:16, "All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness; 17, That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works."
The book of Proverbs, as well as all of Scripture can illustrate the need for passed on knowledge. However Proverbs are not only passed on knowledge but simple phases which are a collection of collections that at times expresses a lifetime of experiences.
The book of Proverbs has 31 chapters, as do most months have days, so no matter what day of the week it is, you can go to that chapter and almost always have something new to read. It is a great read of passed down applied knowledge of daily living. Use it as a guide to understanding yourself as well as others. We really do not know what goes on in the mind of people, lets try and understand it from past experiences of our own life as well as the life of those whos shoulders we stand on, Proverbs.
It is my understanding that the Book of Proverbs is divided into several sections. The first section contains books 1 - 9? It is this section that Jewish children (young men), must have a firm understanding by the 13th birthday, in my own research of the facts i came across the following in Wikipedia that is worth posting.
Please understand that although wisdom is personified throughout this book it is worth noting how feminine represents the evil, unrighteous, fools actions.
The first section (chapters 1–9) consists of an initial invitation to young men to take up the course of wisdom, ten "instructions", and five poems on personified Woman Wisdom.[8]
Proverbs 10:1–22:16, with 375 sayings, consists of two parts, the first contrasting the wise man and the fool (or the righteous and the wicked), the second addressing wise and foolish speech.[9]
Chapters 25–29, attributed to editorial activity of "the men of Hezekiah," contrasts the just and the wicked and broaches the topic of rich and poor.[10]
Chapter 30:1–4, the "sayings of Agur", introduces creation, divine power, and human ignorance.[11]

Chapter 6 of the book of Proverbs is a wonderful illustration about God warning HIS people of a deceitful or idle lifestyle. It melts into chapter 7 which warns about adultery. It is a deep read that has me at times researching the research of the research of this book. It is deep!
Verses 1 - 10 touch on various proverbs. It illustrates the need to be honest, humbled, and protective of the contracts you commit too.
Verses 11 - 19 discuss consequences of idleness as well as ways unfit for battle in the army of God. Getting involved with contracts, commitments other than that of God, will discourage one and may cause one to slip, fall in his walk with God.
Verses 20 - 35, the end of chapter 6 into chapter 7, God shares HIS thoughts about adultery, prostitutes, and the folly that comes of such thoughtless behavior.
Sluggard is repeated, vs 6, vs 9, vs
Sleep is repeated, vs 4, vs 10, vs
Verse 10 seems like an answer to a idle lifestyle, "yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep:
Verse 11 continues with a response, "so shall thy poverty come as one that travel, and thy want as an armed man."
Chapter 7
"My son, keep my words, and lay up my commandments with thee. Keep my commandment and live: and my law as the apple of thine eye." Proverbs 7 vs 1-2. My son, what a way to start, if only i had listened to these words myself, see, in most cases a commentary is a manner in which people can share ones own life experiences.
I am not going to say that i have experience with prostitutes, but i will say that women in general have the ability to flatter, to draw in a man of little sense, yes even a mature man, into her house of folly. God has given us the need for company, few people can sustain life without human companionship. Paul in his letter to the --------------- tells us in so many words to marry if we can not keep our eyes on Christ, otherwise find it the righteousness of Christ to be without a mate, to be single, so as we can focus on the things of God.
Man, even from the time of Adam and Eve, has been deceived by women. I can remember even as recently as 6 months back, how, by the very power of 'i", me, a man, was flattered by the fluttering eyes of a strange women. She promised me the world and took all she could from me as i waited in the folly of her words. Realizing now how foolish i was in my own strength, it was a lesson learned. Thanks be to God that no real damage was done, except for the hurt that i feel each new day as i try to rebuild my own life again. God will allow man to fall into the folly of mans reprobate mind, it is then up to the actions of man to decide whether or not to walk into the wide gate, or listen to God and His words and follow HIM into the gate which is narrow. Verse 21 illustrates it so well,
Verse 21 "with her much fair speech" or as the new american bible states, "She wins him over with her repeated urging, with her smooth lips she leads him astray"
in verses 1 - 2, God is warning man to keep HIS words and commandments, and HIS law as the apple of thine eye so as not to be lead astray by the words of a women, Adam and Eve.
Verse 3 of Chapter 7 of Proverbs warns us to "Bind them upon thy fingers, write them upon the table of thine heart.
Here God is warning man to keep HIS commandments CLOSE, recall Gods words, so that when trouble beseeches us we will know how, we will understand why, and we will have the protection necessary to ward of the evil of a flattering women. "For God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of power, love, and sound mind" II Timothy 1:7.
With this spirt of God we can win the battle of spiritual warefare
Let me just state that women are not the problem, it is the nature of "man" that is tainted. The nature of the human is the need for GOD and HIS righteousness. This righteousness is one freely given by God. As free as is this righteousness is, the cost of not keeping Gods word close to our hearts is the folly.

Verse 5 of Proverb 11 is a strong focus of this proverb, "The righteousness of the perfect shall direct his way: but the wicked shall fall by his own wickedness." It is written as contrasting statements, with each element of wisdom, instruction, feeding off the previous.

Verse 1: Whosoever love instruction love knowledge: but he that hateth reproof is brutish.

This Chapter is the next to last in the Book of Proverbs. I enjoy reading the Proverbs in Scripture because it is as I call it a "Hands on Book". All Scripture is hands on, however there are books that resonate deeper than others and Proverbs is just that type of Book. It must have to do with God and HIS desire to refine a person, to give them the necessary provisions for a certain job ahead. Whatever the reasons one book of Scripture is more favored, understood, or attractive than another, remember God, thru Christ, by the power of the Holy Spirit, is sovereign and in control of all that is good, "every word of God is pure" Proverb 30:5.
The 30th proverb verse one is one where we have a man, Agur and he is making an observation about life in general, in verse
30:2 Agur begins by stating how he is more "brutish" than an other man, (oh how vain). How he lacks understanding, and he continues in verse
30:3 by adding his lack of wisdom or "knowledge of the Holy". (is that not like people of today, Agnostic)
http://atheism.about.com/od/aboutagnosticism/a/Atheist-vs-Agnostic-Difference.htm
30:4 Agur continues by questioning how God controls the wind in HIS fists and how HE bounds the water in a garment. Wow great analogies.
30:5 After questioning how God is sovereign Agur then states "every word of God is pure, HE is a shield unto them that put their trust in HIM".
See the circle back to how Agur questioned Gods sovereignty and then Agur states how God' word is pure.
This reminds me of a Seinfeld episode where George says, i believe in God only for the bad things. How silly, foolish, such folly, imagine when a person says i believe the dead are in heaven, but God does not exist here with us on earth. Is that not what those wondering the dessert for forty years were saying, where is God now, he gives us drink, food, clothing, but where is God. lol
30:6 This verse God speaking thru Agur states how important it is not to add unto the word of GOD.
Really, commentaries are just a way for one to gain a deeper understanding of subject matter, it is not a way to re write the Bible . This commentary is my way of learning, studying, and discerning SCRIPTURE for my self, "study to show thy self approved unto God, a workman need not be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth" 2 Timothy 2:15.
30:7 This verse is the beginning of a prayer Agur is asking of God please, please GOD,
"Two things have I required of thee;" (not i need, but a requirement, a provision, to accomplish what it is God is asking of You).
"Deny me them not before I die" (it appears Agur has not yet received them, he as all of us, is waiting)
what are the two things Agur requires of God to accomplish the will, the thorn in the side, the desire of the heart, of GOD, what is it Agur requires to win this battle for God. It is amazing how it all ties together even to the point the circle takes in the "Armor" of God, as described in the Book of Ephesians, chapter 6.
30:8 "Remove far from me vanity and lies:"
"give me neither poverty nor riches;"
"feed me with food convenient for me:"
30:9 "Least i be full. and deny thee, and say Who is the Lord? or least i be poor and steal, and take the name of my God in vain."
30:10 "Accuse not a servant unto his master, least he curse thee, and thou be found guilty"
30:11 "There is a generation that curseth their father, and do not bless their mother"
30:12 "There is a generation that is pure in their own eyes, and yet is not washed from their filthiness."
30:13 "There is a generation, oh how lofty are their eyes! and their eyelids are lifted up."
30:14 "There is a generation whose teeth are like swords, and their jaw teeth as knives, to devour the poor from off the earth, and the needy from among men."
30:9 - 14 This is an interesting section of scripture, reminding me more and more of how society is evoling into the character God has show us thru HIS written word. Scripture is the only revealed history that has yet to fail, fall short of truth, or to be found wrong, it has taken on the test of time, and is winning, Thank God
Chapter 31, is titled "Advice to a King"
31:1 opens the chapter with prophecy that king Lemuel' mother revealed to him.
31:2 as she shouts out, questioning her son, and his actions.
"What, my son? and what, the son of my womb? and what, the son of my vows?"
31:3 as King Lemuel appears to fall tender for a women, as his mother redirects him
"give not thy strength to a women, nor thy ways which destroy kings."
31:4 "it is not for kings, O Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine; nor for princes to drink strong drink:"
31:5 "least they drink and forget the law, and pervert the judgment of any of the afflicted"
31:6 "Give strong drink unto them that are ready to perish, and wine unto those that be of heavy hearts."
31:7 "let him drink and forget his poverty, and remember his misery no more."
WOW, This is a great section of Scripture, a great section of how a man can gain respect in his community, gain understanding in life, and keep a clear mind to do what God has placed upon ones heart..
A mother is perhaps the only person who can to any degree understand the thoughts of her son, almost as good as God. She understands what drives a man to his folly, and she, a mother is the only one besides God who can really see the destruction of her son by the ravenous women, before it happens.
It is this section verses 1-7 of Proverb 31 that mothers should meditate on, grow in and understanding, and try and relate to her sons in a fashion that is gracious, kind, patient, yet firm. A man will fall victim to his folly of ravenous women if not properly attuned to her manipulative ways.
Drink, is one of her tools which she will use to work evil in his life. It is my understanding that the devil used the intoxicating ways of a women to bring the demise of man in the garden. She was intrigued by what she could not have, which became the desire of her heart, the thorn in her side, the will of Man. God tells us in Romans how HE, God will allow man to fall victim of his own desires, "a reprobate mind." Romans 1:28
"And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient." (convenient meaning 2520, PURE) Romans 1:28.
In this section of Scripture, both in Proverbs and Romans, God is teaching us to listen to those of wisdom (God, Mothers), and take heed in their words, they have watched others experience such folly in life, watching others, doing what is right, and not doing what is wrong. They know better, they pass their knowledge down, just as Proverbial Wisdom has been passed thru time, both verbally, (God using another person to share HIS words), and written, (Scriptural) word of God.

Revelation 15 James
The Letter of James
Authorship: In scripture there are four James mentioned, it is reported that the Letter of James in Scripture is to have been written by the half brother of Jesus, James. According to Matthew 13:55 "Is not this the carpenter's son? is not his mother called Mary? and his brethren (80), James, and Jose, and Simon, and Judas
James the son of ZEBEDEE and brother of John as mentioned is not the author of the Epistle of James because as mentioned in Acts12:1-2 "Now about that time Herod the king stretched forth his hands to vex certain of the church. And he killed James the brother of John with the sword. And because he saw it pleased the Jews, he proceeded further to take Peter also. (Then were the days of unleavened bread)".
As stated above scripture declares James, son of ZEBEDEE and brother of John, suffered martyrdom under Herod Agrippa I prior to the writing of The Epistle of James. According to Mark 1:19 which states "And when he had gone a little farther thence, he saw James the son of ZEBEDEE, and John his brother, who also were in the ship mending their nets". 20 "And straightway he called them: and they left their father ZEBEDEE in the ship with the hired servants, and went after him."
According to Mark 3:18 James the son of ALPHAEUS is not the author of the Letter of James.
According to Luke 6:16 James the son of Judas (not Iscariot) is not the author of the Letter of James.
According to Galatians 1:19 James the half brother of Jesus is the rightful author of the Epistle of James.
Background:
Audience: The Epistle of James is written to all maturing Christians. It is a no-nonsence book of being in the will of God and acting according to His direction. It does not prove actions are parallel to righteousness but actions according to the will of God are in the path of life,,,are you willing to be the hands and feet of Jesus.
This Letter written by James did in its inception have an audience of the 12 tribes scattered from Jerusalem by the spread of paganism.
Canonicity: This letter proves itself over and over through the other writtings of Scripture that it belongs in the Bible. If a writting walks hand in hand with other Scripture it makes a case for its place in the Bible. This as well as the other writings in the Bible prove worthiness to be in the Bible.
